Greetings, I've updated with a new layout! Enjoy!
5/18/2003
I've added a mew review to the Reviews section comparing Hikari Betta Bio Gold, Tetra Bettamin and Tetra freeze-dried bloodworms. It should be helpful. But remember, it's all about opinion.

Happy New Year, everyone! I've added a new section called "6 Handy Things" with pictures and all. It's pretty interesting. Go check it out.
12/31/2002
I've added pictures to the "My Bettas" section. Happy New Years Eve!

Hints and Interesting Facts

Gravel Makes it Hard to Change Water
If you have 4 or more bettas, I would recommend that you keep your betta jar bottoms bare with no gravel. It makes it easier to suck poop off the bottom with a baster.

Plants = Less Stress
Plants make your betta feel less stressed. It provides them with a hiding spot when they're scared or sleepy. It aids to help bettas to stop jumpiness and darting.

Transporting Bettas
When bringing a betta home, add some extra water conditioner (if it has stress coat) and keep your betta covered for the first day and night with a towel around the bowl or something.

Lids
There have been many stories of jumping bettas. Always keep a lid on the jar with holes in it.

Unplug Heater
Unplug your heater when you're changing the water (if you have one)The heaters are made of very thin glass and it could crack if you don't unplug it and lower the water level.

Medications
It would be handy to have a set of meds on hand.
I find that the most used are:
Maracide, Maracyn, Maracyn 2, Kanacyn, and Tetracycline.

Aquarium Test Kits
If you have a problem, the test kits could come in handy. The most important ones are:
Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and pH. If you have any problems, and need to ask questions, these could help determine the problem a lot.

Don't Feed too Much
Something new learned everyday =] You only need to feed your betta 4 Bio Gold Pellets a day. More food = more wastes = ammonia build up

Black Melano females are infertile?
Usually, black melano males are crossed with steel blue females to produce melanos
Only about 1% of the black melano females are fertile

Pastel Bettas Change Colours
Pastel's tend to change their colours a bit. They are usually light coloured

What's That White Blurry Stuff in My Betta Tank?
That "stuff" may be signs of stress. That white "stuff" comes off them when they are stressed

The Smaller the Bowl, the More the Water Change
If you keep your betta in anything 2 gallons or smaller, You should change the water 2-3 times a week.
